each panel realistically painted in ink and coloured pigments on a buff paper ground with cranes, the birds depicted singly or in pairs, and others with their young chicks, the decoration predominantly in black and white, with details picked out in blue and red, mounted on a silvered ground within the black wood frame

Condition Report
Each screen has some paler vertical streaks running from the top edge and has some areas with paper loss. Some surface wear. The screen with three birds has a small tear in the upper left corner approx 1cm and related bruise. The reverse has a puncture tear lower left approx 8cm. The screen with four birds - on the reverse of the right side has a puncture tear lower left approx 10 cm and a small one above approx 1.5 cm.
