The label on the reverse reads: 'Banumbirr, the morning star, is the totem to the left of the painting. Banumburr, the spirit of the deceased is on the right. The elongated rectangles of cross-hatching represent the hollow log in which the bones of the deceased lay. The elongated semicircular [sic.] shapes indicate the home of the spirit - to the left, the black void besides the milky way seen by night; to the right, the sunny sky of the day'.
