designed to show the time by reading the sun's position, fixed to a brass stand with a white dial enclosed in a brass surround with a glass cover, black Roman numerals from 'I' to 'XII', gear system consisting of a set of brass cogs behind the clock, on a rectangular wooden base
18.5CM HIGH
Turning a handle allows a spot of light to fall on an analemma which is adhered to a bracket on the largest cog above the clock face. The gear system then links this motion to the clock hands allowing the time to be read from the clock dial. The clock was designed by W. E. Cooke Government Astronomer at Sydney Observatory between 1912 and 1926 and made by E. W. Esdaile in Sydney, New South Wales Australia between 1912 and 1952.
