Don Juan was owned apparently by renowned grazier Mr Joe Inglis. He paid 300 pounds for this beautiful horse just days before it won the Melbourne Cup on that first Tuesday in November in 1873.
It was mooted that Don Juan had some mild heart problems days before the race however he went on to win the race triumphantly. He showed great fortitude in winning that demanding race as four months later he did suffer a serious heart attack and sadly died
