A Japanese tall bronze 'carp' vase and cover, late 19th century

in three sections, the large fish leaping from the rectangular platform base of wave splashed rocks, supported on four scroll feet springing from crested birds heads with outstretched wings, a water spout issuing from the carp's mouth supporting the ovoid vase decorated in relief on the sides with a pair of birds in flight above a blossoming tree, and a large bird perched near a banana palm gazing down at chicks in a nest below, set on either side with a removable dragon handle, the domed cover surmounted by a removable eagle with wings outstretched perched above tall rockwork

Condition Report
A crack on the carp from the right eye to the upper right fin which is possibly repaired at the join and slightly loose. Some wings on the bird feet slightly loose. Two feet slightly loose and some pins missing. On the body of the vase there is a small area approx 1.5cm where the dark brown surface now flaked off showing the gilt bronze beneath. The inside mount of the cover slightly irregular in shape.
