Catalogue Notes

Near Scone, in New South Wales, 'Thornwaite' was the home of the Hon. Joseph Docker, early Australian surgeon, politician, photographer and painter.

This large format watercolour is listed in Martens account book on 25 October 1862 as being sold to Docker. An undated field drawing from this trip to the Upper Hunter Valley in May 1862 is in the collection of the Mitchell Library, State Library of New South Wales, Sydney.
