A hardstone inlaid hongmu box and cover, 19th/20th century

of rectangular form, the conforming fitted cover inlaid in mother of pearl and variously coloured hardstones with six boys gathered around a figure of a qilin, with lingzhi fungus beside rocks, a fruiting plant in a jardiniere, a bowl of fruit and a stack of books, and with two inscribed ivory plaques, one bearing an apocryphal four-character seal mark of Qianlong

Condition Report
The cover with a crack from the left edge towards the centre approx 8cm and another from the right edge approx 5cm . Some infill to interior joins in the corners. A small gap on the underside where the base panel meets the side partly infilled. The wood with dark staining.
