Tiffany & Co., has frequently commissioned bespoke jewels by renowned American designers for its discerning clientele as part of its exclusive service. Dominating the American jewellery scene since 1912, Oscar Heyman and Brothers are today acknowledged as one of the predominant gemstone jewellery workshops in the world creating fine jewels for Tiffany & Co., Cartier and Van Cleef and Arpels. In 1969, Cartier commissioned them to 'design and create Elizabeth Taylor's diamond necklace to showcase the Taylor-Burton diamond', an magnificent pear-shaped diamond, weighing 69.42 carats, set with sixty seven graduated marquise shaped diamonds.
This bespoke necklace created for Tiffany & Co. was inspired by an award winning floral motif produced by Oscar Heyman for the 1939 New York's World Fair, which created a sensation when shown and won 'Best of Show'.
