the rectangular top above two short and three long graduated drawers decorated with Grecian key pattern and with original steel locks, raised on turned feet; 10CM WIDE, 54CM DEEP, 116CM HIGH;

NOTE The Late Kevin Fahy pronounced this chest as one of the Missionary Chests in relation to its likely connection to the Reverend Samuel Marsden (1765-1838) who in 1815 went to New Zealand with a group to convert the Maori to Christianity. It is presumed that this chest went over to New Zealand and never came back, perhaps they had to leave New Zealand in a hurry;

PROVENANCE This chest was discovered by the present owner in an antique shop on the North Island of New Zealand where it was listed as a mahogany chest.
