the square top with a specimen wood chess board above a single drawer with ebony handles and locking pin for the work basket below, raised on a turned column and four acanthus leaf carved scrolled legs, terminating in brass castors; 50CM WIDE, 48CM DEEP, 75CM HIGH;

NOTE The exotic timbers used in the chessboard have been identified as far as possible and a chart is available. Interestingly, on the underside of the top are a series of Chinese characters that no doubt relate to the timbers used and would suggest the involvement of a Chinese cabinetmaker;
