the raised, beveled rectangular plate within a tortoiseshell veneer slip, the tortoiseshell frame with glazed compartments inset with four satin panels worked in coloured silks and metallic thread, the top panel depicting Adam and Eve in the garden of Eden by an apple tree, a Queen with a bird perched on her outstretched hand to one side and a courtier holding out a scroll to the other side, both with foliate surrounds, the panel below depicting an exotic bird amongst trailing floral motifs
