Catalogue Notes

Cartier lavished the riches of the enamel palette on its timepieces. This rock crystal desk clock uses white and sweet blue guilloche enamel, and its blue pattern on the metal ground is visible through the transparent enamel, described as 'guilloche' with the radiating rays. Dating from the Belle Epoque, these desk clocks were among the most favoured gifts of the Edwardian period, a time distinguished by an elegance and refinement that revived the splendour of Louis XVI.
