Arthur Streeton visited Liverpool in 1903 and here depicts St. George's Square, with St. George's Hall (completed in 1854) on the left and Wellington's Column, or the Waterloo Memorial, a monument to the Duke of Wellington (completed in 1865) on the right of the composition.
Shown at the Sedon Galleries during the 1940s this watercolour was erroneously described as Le Louvre and La Madeleine in Paris, however, is correctly reinstated with its original title here.
