IMPORTANT AUSTRALIAN ART

Smith & Singer’s tightly curated November 2024 auction of Important Australian Art achieved exceptional results for traditional, modern and contemporary Australian art with a total of $13,549,318 (including buyer’s premium).

Determined bidding from clients in the saleroom, on telephones, and online resulted in an outstanding sold rate for a mixed vendor sale of 117% by value and 70% by volume, showing the depth of demand across all categories.

Four works sold for in excess of $1,000,000, with numerous well exceeding their upper estimates.  Results were led by stellar performances by artists including Brett Whiteley, Russell Drysdale, Jeffrey Smart, John Perceval, Del Kathryn Barton, Arthur Boyd, William Delafield Cook, Isobel Rae, Elioth Gruner and Criss Canning, with new world auction records established for Mortimer Menpes and Bronwyn Oliver.
