Important Works by Arthur Boyd from The Denis Savill Collection

The names of Arthur Boyd and Denis Savill have for many decades been inextricably linked.  The former remains one of Australia’s most creative visionaries, whilst the later forged a remarkable career as one of the nation’s preeminent, prescient and successful art dealers.

The story of Savill Galleries and its rise to pre-eminence in the 1980s coincided with the renewed interest in and appreciation of Australian art in terms of its historical importance, aesthetic appeal and investment potential.  Never before had Australian art enjoyed the extensive patronage of corporate and private clientele and the most significant collectors were the businesses and individuals that shaped Australia’s economy.  For more than 35 years, Savill Galleries specialised in buying, exhibiting and selling major Australian historical, modern and contemporary paintings, sculpture and works on paper.  Denis Savill’s extensive knowledge of and expertise in the art market made him one of the most respected and well-known art dealers in the country.

Important Works by Arthur Boyd from The Denis Savill Collection represents a refined selection of seven paintings that were acquired for their personal enjoyment.  The scope spans thirty years in Boyd’s career and includes defining compositions such as Eltham Dam (1959), Cleft Riverbank with Bush and Ram (1974-1976) and Study for Four Times of Day (1983).

We are particularly honoured to be entrusted with Important Works by Arthur Boyd from The Denis Savill Collection.  It is a testament to and celebration of the special relationship that existed between two highly formidable and influential figures within the story of Australian art.
