Important Jewels, Watches & Objects of Virtu
Smith & Singer's September auction of Important Jewels, Watches & Objects of Virtu drew fierce bidding in the room, on the telephones and online, resulting in a total of $1,111,375. This was complemented by a sold rate by volume of 80% and by value of 127.47% – the highest rates achieved at auction for important jewels in Australia this year – and the strongest rates at Smith & Singer (formerly operating as Sotheby's Australia) in a decade.
Items of quality and allure drew particular competition, with bidders vying for significant jewels of all variety, from earrings, necklaces and rings to brooches, bracelets and watches. Prominent results were achieved for gems designed by Buccellati, Bulgari, Cartier, and Jean Schlumberger for Tiffany & Co., complemented by classic watches from Cartier, A. Lange & Söhne, Patek Philippe, Omega, and Rolex, along with fine European objects of virtu.
