Sotheby’s Australia’s November sale of Important Australian Art has clearly positioned the auctioneer as the undisputed art market leader in Australia for 2016.  With strong buyer interest, the collection of 102 lots realised $8.53 million and achieved a new world auction record for Charles Blackman’s The Game of Chess 1956, which sold for $1,799,500.

The results achieved by Sotheby’s Australia represents the continued strength and confidence in the Australian Art Market.  Sotheby’s Australia auctioned six of the top ten Australian paintings in 2016.
