Celebrated Australian artist Russell Drysdale was one of the country’s least prolific artists, producing around 350 oil paintings during a career spanning four decades, which makes the Sotheby’s Australia exhibition of more than 40 of Drysdale’s paintings, which is currently on show at the auction house’s Sydney gallery, quite an extraordinary achievement.
